Season Preparation

BYSA - Notes for Coaches

Topic

Coach Tips

We play soccer in the rain! Especially true for U10, U12, U14, and HS! For In-Town - U05, U06, & U08 - coaches can use their judgement.

BYSA In-Town is Recreational soccer - all players should play at least 50% of a game. Emphasize learning and fun.

Please do NOT use lines as formation aids! [E.g., defense can’t cross center line] It causes bad habits!

Field Care

Move Nets and Sand Bags to let grass recover

Encourage goalies to move off of the goal line!

Forbush Fields

Specific field locations are identified on the schedule:

A – Large field along parking lot

B – Large field along the road

C – Set of three small U5/U6 fields at far end from parking lot

NVYSL Game Cancellation Policy

For U10, U12, U14, and HS:

If the Home team does not call a game due to Unsafe Playing Conditions two (2) hours prior to the scheduled start, then you MUST show up at the field.

After the 2-hour mark, it is the Referee’s decision is a field is playable. Coaches can provide input based on safety concerns.

Unsafe Playing Conditions include standing water and thunder & lighting.
